Today’s Prompt: “If”- by Rudyard Kipling
“If you can …,” said the father, “[remain confident, optimistic and industrious; all the while fighting, with integrity, to the end] … you’ll be a Man, my son!”
The qualities needed by this young man, and every individual that heeds the wisdom in these words, are imperative for any who are chronically ill.
Confidence to combat our low self esteem.
Optimism to dream while fighting hopelessness and depression.
Industriousness to create new opportunities and new ways to live, eat and enjoy a meaningful and happy life.
And integrity, so that along the way we maintain our moral and ethical standards – never resorting to the wisdom of unscrupulous ones; treatments that we would otherwise consider unsavoury or behaviour that would make caring for us a burden.
If we can muster up the courage to do all the aforementioned, then we’ll be SURVIVORS, my friends!
